Increase the speed of your computer
Computer technology is being up-graded continuously. Will your computer become
obsolete in the near future, probably not. Given that the hardware for computers
is always being improved, does not mean that the software that runs on your
computer has changed significantly. If your computer needs are being met by your
current computer system, but it runs slow there are ways to improve the speed of
the computer.
A couple of inexpensive hardware methods to increased the computers operational
speed are first raise the amount of RAM. By increasing the amount of RAM, the
Windows operating system will have less system overhead and more time for the
running of your program.
With the costs to increase RAM memory being very minor in comparison to a new
computer system this can be a good alternative.
Secondly, a video card with 32 Meg or more of memory will increase the speed of
your computer system as well. This is especially true for games and graphic
intensive operations. A faster video card will allow the system to transfer more
video data to your monitor.
This will give the computer system the advantage of less overhead in changing of
your screen. You will see considerable performance increases with these two
improvements.
The computer software can be set up so that TSR (terminate and stay resident)
programs are running at all times while the computer is running. These programs
can use valuable CPU resources, which will decrease the speed of the computer
operation.
Most of these program icons can be seen in the lower right hand corner of the
Task Bar where the computers clock is shown. By using the mouse and right
clicking on these icons, they can be turned off. The more TSR programs that are
turned off, the better performance other applications will achieve.
