Windows XP Firewall
If you are use your computer system to connect
to the Internet, you need to be running a firewall to prevent hackers and
robots depositing (amongst other things) Trojans onto your system.
Windows XP has one built into it, so don't go out buying expensive
alternatives.
Extra
care should be taken not to adjust the Windows XP network setting whilst
"Online" or "Dialled Up" to the
Internet using the build-in functions of XP, as the firewall can be
disabled for a number of minutes (naughty, naughty Microsoft).
The firewall needs to be enabled on
the dial-up connection to the Internet Service Provider connection only.
To enable the Windows XP firewall
1. Go to "Start", "Settings" and
then "Control Panel"

2. Double Click on "Network
Connections"

3. Right-hand mouse click the
dial-up connection

4. and choose "Properties"

5. Click on the "Advanced" tab

6. Click on the "Settings"
button

7. Ensure the Windows Firewall
is set to "On (recommended) using the radio button and press "OK"
