Enterprise-Class Core Switching
The 3Com® Switch 40x0 Family of switches are high-performance, wire-speed, Layer
3 10/100/1000 switches, with dual redundant "hot swappable" power supplies and
fans. These 24-port switches are optimized for building aggregation, with
flexibility and expansion provided through SFP (Small Form Factor Plug-in) or
GBIC transceivers. All of these switches optionally support
3Com's XRN™ technology - a unique core solution delivering distributed
resilience.
3Com® Switch 4070 offers a twenty-four port configuration to populate with
1000BASE-SX, 1000BASE-LX, and 1000BASE-LH SFPs, delivering the ultimate
flexibility, enabling mixing and matching media and port-count to meet the
network needs. Optional XRN technology support.
3Com® Switch 4060 offers a twenty-four port configuration with 12
1000BASE-SX ports, 6 GBIC ports, and 6 integrated 10/100/1000 ports, delivering
media flexibility and optional XRN technology support.
3Com® Switch 4050 offers a twenty-four port configuration with 6 1000BASE-SX
ports, 6 GBIC ports, and 12 integrated 10/100/1000 ports, delivering media
flexibility and optional XRN technology support.
3Com XRN™
(eXpandable Resilient Networking) technology allows implementation of high
availability configurations using two interconnected Switch 4050s, Switch 4060s,
or Switch 4070s, scaling the backbone to 48 wirespeed Gigabit Layer 3 switching
ports (with purchase of optional 3Com XRN Interconnect Kit, or GBIC Fabric
Interconnect with GMS Advanced Feature License)

Advanced Layer 2 and Layer 3 functionality—such as multicast filtering, enhanced QoS/CoS services, virtual
LANs, and multi-layer traffic classification and prioritisation—provides
network-wide traffic control

3Com-developed ASIC architecture delivers 56 Gbps multilayer switching capacity per unit, wire-speed
performance across all ports, and a forwarding rate of more than 41 million pps

Layer 3 switching
capabilities—such as OSPF, IP unicast using static routes, RIP/RIPv2, and CIDR—help
enhance performance, provide network control and security, and enable routing
between VLANs (OSPF available with purchase of GMS Advanced Feature License,

Support for high availability
software features such as Link Aggregation using 802.3ad, Resilient links,
Spanning Tree and Rapid Spanning Tree (802.1w), seven groups of RMON, and e-mail
alerts

Security features like 802.1X
RADIUS client support and Routed Access Control lists protect sensitive network
information and ensure that users have access to authorized resources

High density fibre
connectivity by populating the Switch 4070 with 1000BASE-SX and 1000BASE-LX SFP
transceivers
